Glenurquhart Bowling Club
We believe the club was started around 1900 with three rinks. It continued until 1940 when it closed for 14 years. In 1954 it was reopened and over the next few years the Green was increased to six rinks and a small clubhouse built.
In the late sixties a new clubhouse was built and two years ago a veranda was added. We are a small country club with about 45 members and enjoy our bowling, playing in area tournaments and friendly matches with neighbouring clubs.
The badge was designed by one of our presidents, Bert Wood, in the 60s and remains the same to this day. The castle is Urquhart Castle which stands on a promontory in Loch Ness, less than two miles from Drumnadrochit where our Bowling Club is situated. The loch, hills and sky are the background of the badge.
The season has now started and we look forward to welcoming new members wishing a game. Club nights are Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm. Bowls are available at the Club for a trial game and flat shoes must be worn. Contact the Secretary on 01456 450884 for further information.
